The other type of survey that is sent out to our inpatients is a survey that was developed by CMS or the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. This survey is called the HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) survey. The HCAHPS survey asks two global questions regarding the likelihood to recommend the hospital and the overall rating of the hospital. There are also questions that ask patients to rate their experience with Nursing and Physician communication, staff responsiveness, pain control, communication regarding medications, the hospital environment and discharge information. CMS adjusts the results based on their patient –mix adjustment model. The adjusted results may be found at www.hospitalcompare.hhs.org. The data posted on the hospital compare web site is from approximately 9-12 months prior. The information that we are posting is from the past quarter and will not be run through the CMS patient adjustment.
