Red Wagon Society

Supporting The Children’s Hospital at Providence
Just as the image of a red wagon from our childhood memories brings us smiles, it also symbolizes the innocent ability of children to imagine, discover and wonder. At The Children’s Hospital at Providence, red wagons are used to mobilize children during their stay. It is one small aspect that contributes to our philosophy of focusing on patients and their families.

The Red Wagon Society consists of volunteers and donors who help mobilize services for the children of Alaska. Through an annual commitment to the Red Wagon Society, members support The Children’s Hospital at Providence. Members can also help raise awareness by initiating small personal fundraisers and/or awareness events.

Family Support Services funded completely by philanthropy include:
  • Patient navigators – help patients and families navigate through unfamiliar territories, including the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
  • Child life specialists – experts in child development, they promote effective coping through play, preparation, education and self-expression activities.
  • In-house teachers – coordinate with a child’s classroom teacher, providing instruction, managing logistics and keeping children engaged in life outside of their hospitalization.
Are you interested in becoming a donor to the Red Wagon Society?  Join online today by clicking on the Donate Now button to the right and select "Family Support Services". Gifts of all levels to Family Support Services will make a significant difference in the lives of the patients and families at The Children's Hospital at Providence.

Friends of the Red Wagon Society
Patients and families at The Children’s Hospital at Providence often miss the simple comforts of home.  Our goal is to be able to provide each of the 1,800 families who enter our doors each year with a Comfort Bag when they are admitted to the hospital.

The following is a list of items that are currently needed to help support pediatric patients and their loved ones during their hospital stay.
  • Blankets (gender-neutral colors preferred)
  • Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and soap - no need for dental products right now)
  • Warm socks - all size
  • Notebooks and pens
  • Restaurant gift cards
  • Gas gift cards
  • Debit cards
*All items must be new.  Donations may be dropped off at The Providence Alaska Foundation, at 3400 Health Drive (behind the main hospital campus).

Alternately, by making a monetary donation to Family Support Services we can ensure the funds are always available to purchase items on our wish list.
