Alaska CARES, Loussac Library offer day for kids as part of Child Abuse Prevention Month

Community leaders read to children, talk about safety with families

ANCHORAGE, AK – Alaska CARES along with the Loussac Library are teaming up for “Bears, Blankets, Books & Blue Ribbons” on Saturday, May 11. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, but prevention is important all year long. The event will include fun activities and safety information. The event’s title is inspired by the blue ribbons that represent awareness of child abuse prevention.

A special reading time will take place in the story theater on the second floor of the Loussac Library. Special guests Col. Keith Mallard of the Alaska State Troopers and Sgt. Aaron Whitt from the Anchorage Police Department will read books to children and participate in a coloring activity that explains how to stay safe. Informational materials such as positive parenting pamphlets will be available for families.

For a more comfortable atmosphere, children are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animal or blanket to the event. The special guests will be participating by wearing bunny slippers with their uniforms. This free event is open to all ages.
