Providence Alaska Medical Center receives award for high-quality care

Mountain-Pacific Quality Health awards Providence Alaska Medical Center with their highest honor

ANCHORAGE, AK – Mountain-Pacific Quality Health has awarded Providence Alaska Medical Center with its Quality Achievement Award for high-quality care in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical infection prevention. This is the highest honor awarded by Mountain-Pacific.

“Our caregivers are committed to providing the best possible care to our patients,” said Richard Mandsager, MD, chief executive, Providence Alaska Medical Center. “This achievement recognizes their continuous hard work and dedication to Alaskans.”

The Quality Achievement Award is given when a hospital reaches a 95 percent performance composite score for the most recent two quarters of data locked in the Quality Improvement Organization Clinical Warehouse as of Aug. 15, 2013. Hospitals must also have a presence on Hospital Compare and participate in the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems.

“Alaskan health care leaders are deeply committed to championing patient safety, improving patient satisfaction and improving health for communities throughout the state. Our health care executives realize their commitment to set goals, measure progress and work to achieve them each and every day,” said Mountain-Pacific Alaska Director Sharon Scudder. “It is a pleasure to work with these leaders and their health care teams as we move forward together to improve patient outcomes through excellent clinical care, promote wellness to assure population health and to realize cost savings due to effectiveness and efficiency.”

Mountain-Pacific recognizes hospitals throughout Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, and Hawaii that are outstanding in their dedication to quality care, especially in the clinical areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and preventing surgical infection. All Alaska hospitals are eligible to apply for Hospital Quality Awards. Award-winning hospitals range from small rural hospitals to large urban hospitals. The award was presented during the Alaska State Hospital & Nursing Home Association annual conference on Sept. 13, 2013, in Nome.
