Anchorage
, AK — Mountain-Pacific Quality Health has awarded Providence Alaska Medical Center with its 2014 Commitment to Quality Award and Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center with its 2014 Quality Achievement Award.

The hospitals received the awards for high-quality care in the areas of cardiac health, pneumonia and reduction of unnecessary hospital readmissions and the prevention of dangerous and costly health-care associated infections.
"Safety and quality of care is of paramount importance to Providence caregivers," said Bruce Lamoureux, chief executive, Providence Health & Services Alaska. "This recognition is a credit to the hard work and dedication to ensure we provide the best possible care to the communities we serve."
The Commitment to Quality Award is for a 90 percent performance composite score for the most recent two quarters of data. The Quality Achievement Award is given when a hospital reaches a 95 percent performance composite score. Hospitals must also have a presence on Hospital Compare and participate in the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems.
"Providence continues to demonstrate leadership in championing health care quality improvement initiatives in Alaska," said Mountain-Pacific Alaska Director Sharon Scudder. "Mountain-Pacific Quality Health Foundation, the Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization, salutes Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center and Providence Alaska Medical Center for achieving excellence in patient care."
Mountain-Pacific recognizes hospitals throughout Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, and Hawaii that are outstanding in their dedication to quality care, especially in the clinical areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and preventing surgical infection. All Alaska hospitals are eligible to apply for Hospital Quality Awards. Award-winning hospitals range from small rural hospitals to large urban hospitals.
