Safe Kids Alaska, FedEx, and local children join together on International Walk to School Day

Anchorage, AK - This year in Anchorage, nearly 30,000 students walk or are driven in private vehicles to school daily. The activities of Safe Kids Alaska and FedEx on International Walk to School Day are designed to help educate children and families about the importance of pedestrian safety and being visible to drivers in dark outdoor conditions. The festivities will include a “Be Safe, Be Seen” visibility fashion show and FedEx truck safety presentations.

What:  Safe Kids Alaska and FedEx volunteers will lead local activities as part of International Walk to School Day 2010.  More than 400 children from Scenic Park Elementary will participate in this year’s activities as part of the Safe Kids Alaska’s Walk This Way program. Volunteers from Safe Kids Alaska and FedEx will teach children from Scenic Park how to be safe pedestrians as they walk to and from school on International Walk to School Day.
 
On Oct. 6, 190 Safe Kids coalitions across the country will hold more than 600 International Walk to School Day activities. In addition to highlighting pedestrian safety, the coalitions will spotlight a particular pedestrian danger or issue in their community. Safe Kids Alaska will focus on reflector use and visibility while walking on dark Anchorage winter mornings.
