Alaska Kids for Kids

Ten-year-old Sarah Mixsell decided to do something different for her 9th birthday. Rather than making a list of everything she wanted to receive, instead she decided to give. With the help of her family, she started a nonprofit organization called Alaska Kids for Kids, and donated gifts to local nonprofit AWAIC. She’s been spreading the word and trying to get other youth involved since then, and this year has chosen the Child Life Specialists at The Children’s Hospital at Providence as her charity of choice. Child Life Specialists are experts in child development, they promote effective coping through play, preparation, education, and self-expression activities.
Sarah and her friends got together and made bead necklaces and earrings that Sarah’s been selling for months. She recently surpassed her fundraising goal, and has decided to keep selling the packages through the year to help sick and injured kids across Alaska. Right now, you can find Sarah’s jewelry at 2 Friends gallery, the bookstore at UAA, and in the gift shop at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
The mission for Alaska Kids for Kids is to encourage kids to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children across Alaska on every day of the year, and the goal is to find at least 365 kids who are willing to devote some part of their birthday celebration each year to benefit other children in Alaska.
Thank you Sarah for your kind heart and generous actions – we appreciate your support!!
