Providence Crisis Recovery Center (PCRC)

Providence Crisis Recovery Center is a sub-acute voluntary behavioral health facility that focuses on helping individuals to effectively manage psychiatric symptoms in order to prevent unnecessary tragedy or frequent hospitalization. Individuals 12 and older can be referred to the program by their psychiatric provider, through the emergency department, or the mobile team. Please call (907) 212-6240 with any questions about accessing services.

What is the referral process?
Individuals are referred to the center when they’re not in immediate need for hospitalization, but require a period of supportive stabilization in order to function safely in their natural environment at home and in the community. When symptoms are beginning to pose a risk, PCRC can be an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization as well as aide in transitioning clients from a psychiatric hospitalization into the community.

Since there is no on site 24-hour pharmacy, all clients entering PCRC need to arrive with at least a three day supply of their own medications – a seven to ten day supply is preferred.

While we are committed to helping those in need, there are situations for which the center may not be the best place for care. Individuals with the following issues may be directed to other services until their circumstances improve:

  • In need of detoxification services
  • Extremely suicidal/volatile or actively aggressive
  • Not medically stable or considered to be medically fragile

What services are provided?
A multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed clinicians, and mental health specialists provides the following services:

  • Crisis intervention and stabilization
  • Psychiatric nursing and medication management
  • Twenty-four hour support
  • Therapeutic groups
  • Information and referral to community resources
  • Education and coping skills training

The center consists of community dining, recreation, and study areas. All rooms are private with a half bathroom and community showers/baths.

How does an individualized service program work?
The goal for all individuals at the center is to safely stabilize their psychiatric symptoms through effective symptom management and improve coping skills in order to address their crisis effectively.

Our daily program is structured to maximize the practice of self-care and illness management skills. While all individuals are encouraged to attend the full program, a clinically appropriate program routine is reached based on the client’s self-assessment and the assessment of the clinical team.

Providence Crisis Recovery Center services are available to anyone, regardless of the ability to pay; The center can bill Medicaid and private insurance for some services. The center is partly funded by a grant through the State of Alaska, Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Behavioral Health.
