Providence Valdez Medical Center radiology department is proud to provide advanced diagnostics such as computed radiography, multi-slice computed tomography with state of the art dose reduction software, 3D/4D sonography and bone densitometry services. Our qualified, friendly and knowledgeable staff consists of two registered technologists that bring to you more than 30 years of experience in the field of imaging. This experience, along with the other qualified hospital personnel, provide around-the-clock coverage for all of your immediate healthcare and imaging needs.
X-rays have a shorter wavelength than visible light and can penetrate body tissues. When a certain part of the body is x-rayed, dense tissues, such as bones, absorb the rays and appear as bright areas on the image. Soft tissues appear in shades of gray.
DXA (short for dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) is an advanced technology that safely, accurately and painlessly measures bone mineral density. It helps determine whether you are at high, increased or low risk of fracturing a bone.
CT scans involve a more sophisticated and intense use of X-rays, along with special sensors. The patient lies on a table that slides into a tunnel in the machine. Images are produced by numerous narrow beams of radiation and detectors that rotate 360 degrees around the patient. A computer reassembles the “slices,” providing a detailed cross-sectional view of the body’s interior.
This technology uses a form of sonar (Sound Waves) above the range of human hearing. When the waves reach a boundary where there is a change in tissue density-the surface of an organ, for example-an echo results. A computer analyzes the echo, revealing two or three dimensional features of the organ, such as its depth, size, shape, and consistency.
