Theresa Carte, Ph.D., named administrator of Cordova Community Medical Center

Carte to serve as first administrator under Providence management services agreement
ANCHORAGE, AK  - Theresa Carte, Ph.D., has been named administrator of Cordova Community Medical Center effective April 8. Theresa comes to Cordova from Providence Health & Services Alaska in Anchorage, where she has served as director of Operational Excellence since 2005.
In her prior role, Theresa was responsible for designing and implementing process improvements throughout Providence’s Alaska Region. She is highly skilled in managing people and projects that reduce variation, create efficient processes and achieve results.
Prior to joining Providence, Theresa worked for Avery Dennison, a medical supply manufacturer, in process improvement and research-and-development roles.
Theresa earned a bachelor of science in biomedical engineering as well as a master of science and doctorate in macromolecular science and engineering, all from Case Western Reserve University. She is a member of the American Chemical Society.
“We are thrilled to have someone at Providence with Theresa’s background and expertise, and we look forward to working with her in this new role,” said Susan Humphrey-Barnett, area operations administrator for Providence, who is responsible for critical access hospitals in communities around the state, including Kodiak, Seward and Valdez.
“We are pleased to have Ms. Carte join Cordova as part of this community in our common pursuit of excellence in health care,” said Cordova Mayor Jim Kallander.
The City of Cordova contracted with Providence Health & Services Alaska in March to provide management services for the Cordova Community Medical Center, including employment of the hospital administrator. Theresa is the first administrator as part of this new agreement.
“I’m excited about joining Cordova in their journey and helping achieve their vision for a healthy community,” said Theresa Carte.
